This is The Plan

Barney’s been cooking this one for some time, but maybe now is right. His first premise is things ain’t gonna get better, so we need to be self sufficient, live at a height to avoid the flood, and somewhere where we won’t be vulnerable to take-over (ie no one steals my vegetables). I believe we need to support each other in our old age. My mum is one of 11 siblings and hell they have supported and continue to support each other. So… we get some friends together and get a place somewhere suitable and live a kind of mutually supportive lifestyle. There is still some discussion about getting the Younger Generation in to help too, at least initially. Today we saw a place with a big farmhouse, two 2 bed cottages and 10 acres of land, which looks like we could start off with 2 families and let out the big house for income as we establish the windmills etc for the self sufficiency etc. We’ve been growing veg a lot this year as a kind of trial. I think we’d have trouble convincing others to sell up and join us, so we need to find somewhere suitable and move there first, which means the place I’ve seen at £¾ million, may be a wee bit off limits…I’ve read about communes for older folk and I’m convinced it’s a goer. I have a few cousins who may step on board too, so watch this space.

Tomorrow I have a scan. If it turns out my prognosis isn’t great we’re both giving up work, selling up and starting out. Ha! Actually, Barney believes we only have till the Aztec calendar runs out in 2012, so maybe we should just do it anyway.
